Re: Is Apple right or wrong?

I think that's a bit of a stretch.. While people have most certainly, in error attributed the idea of a GUI to Jobs, just as I am sure many have done with Microsoft / Gates, I don't think I've ever seen either of them actually try to claim they came up with the idea. Then you weren't paying attenti...

Re: Is Apple right or wrong?

One of the great things about Steve Jobs is that he had an eye for design. As a result of this, Apple has been often one of the first to make a next step that others followed. Some examples ... a gui based OS, the iPhone / iPad, removal of disk drives, high resolution screens. Jobs genius was in ta...

I'm in N. Kentucky (near rsts) and have seen problems during the day for 3 days but usually can connect in the evening local time (late night in France).

Re: What happened to PowerBasic?

Many years ago when Usenet was still viable, Powerbasic employees posted to the Usenet Powerbasic group without identifying themselves as Powerbasic employees. One (from Australia) frequently provided excellent code snippets to address questions/issues. When I encountered him on the Powerbasic forum...

Re: Modem Emulation Software

Modems do as they are told - they have no personality of their own. The specifics of what occurs in any modem link are determined by the communications protocol which will detail the prompts/responses required to establish and maintain the link. Communications protocols will differ from one bit of e...

Re: Speeding up Serial Communication?

It appears that the 14M2 does not run with a clock rate faster than 32 MHz despite my understanding of the PICAXE manual. So simply putting more horsepower under the hood does not seem to be a solution. I took a few days to study the PICAXE system a few weeks ago and decided that the PICs they use ...

Re: Speeding up Serial Communication?

A real com port is always faster. I did some testing a few years back (@115200) comparing straight RS232 with USB-RS232 when downloading firmware to an Atmel AVR microcontroller and the former was more than twice as fast. This may seem odd given the high speed of the USB bus but there are two trans...

Have you installed the Prolific driver? I don't have Lion but on earlier versions I saw "/dev/tty.usbserial" but still needed the driver to use it.

You are showing a link for home users while I am talking about enterprise users. What alternate universe do you inhabit? Everything I've seen says MS dominates enterprise desktops and servers with Linux dominating public/web servers especially where cost is a major factor. http://www.eweek.co...
