Re: I Need (We ALL Need) Help Badly on Superblocks!

I know how to directly access the harddrive under linux. Just write to /dev/sdX or /dev/hdX (depending on the harddisk type). Handle it like a normal file, but make sure no partition of it is mounted. If you only want to write to a specific partition you can also attach the corresponding partition ...

Re: I Need (We ALL Need) Help Badly on Superblocks!

I'm not offered a choice of doing either quick or long formats. gparted and the installer so quick formats for ext4, but long formats for ext2 and ext3. Trouble is, these formats skip the orphaned superblocks according the teskdisk's deeper search after the format completes. Like I said, it seems n...

Re: I Need (We ALL Need) Help Badly on Superblocks!

Now THAT is a reply I can appreciate! Thanks a lot for the link. I'm going to pass on my little command line process in sh or bash for generating td1.txt and td2.txt from a testdisk.log file. If you run Windows. you wont't have bash natively. but you can download a Ubuntu LiveCD iso and make a dvd d...

Re: I Need (We ALL Need) Help Badly on Superblocks!

What I had to work with was pure junk. I was not in a position to do better than what I had, and I had limited documentation to work with. It might have had some nice stuff inside, but they did not show on the outside, You claim it had PEEK() and POKE in its Basic, but there was no evidence of that,...

Testdisk.log dump of Corrupt Drive

I was criticized before for posting this topic in the coding section. My reason for doing so the first time was that I need to know how to overwrite the contents of specific sectors on several drives that are corrupting the contents of partitions and the partition table itself. People either did not...

Re: I Need (We ALL Need) Help Badly on Superblocks!

I realize that about gparted. But this seems to be something new in the way of a problem, not related to gparted. gparted is but one tool in the arsenal provided for managing hard drives/sticks/SDDs which are treated as hard drives. As an experiment, I tried to install Linux to a NTDS and FAT32 volu...

Re: I Need (We ALL Need) Help Badly on Superblocks!

Ah, so ir is not a fix you propose, but a comment on my writing style: tl is too long, dr is didn't read. Pity. I thought you were offering help. but you are just digging in the spurs even more. like I needed that. Here is a po;ga back at you.

Re: I Need (We ALL Need) Help Badly on Superblocks!

tl;dr c ya, nco2k Neither Ubuntu nor OpenSUSE recognize tl or dr. Looks like you have something going under Windows. Some more details whould be greatly appreciated. This muxt be custom code you are referring to, not generic to Linux. If it does what you suggest it does, that would be really great.

Re: I Need (We ALL Need) Help Badly on Superblocks!

Thanks people. No answers yet I see, but at least it is getting some attention. I've stayed away a few days to let this simmer a bit, and get a broader response possibly. As to dome og the points raised: Testdisk reports both FAT32 and NTFS superblocks as well. So they go deeper than you realize. Po...

Re: I Need (We ALL Need) Help Badly on Superblocks!

Two points I should have made: (1) I only used several distros of Ubuntu when this began happening on my maclines. It first showed up under 14.04 LTS. It was moe evident under 15.10 and 1604. But it was totally out og control under Uguntu-Gnome 16.04. Now these were progressive stages, and the probl...

I Need (We ALL Need) Help Badly on Superblocks!

I am trying to get the word out that there is a fatal flaw in the existing file structure for all drives an partitions. I can relate what is going on and what I see is happening, bur for various reasons, my posts and threads are then mostly hidden, removed, and I'm told to scale back the wording or ...

Re: What INC From N to M in Exactly S Steps?

. But, in running my code, it appears I got the Debug Output window screwed up the other night. Trying to see the Debug Window in small size as part of my Debug effort, while walking my code, I got it to go down to a small size. Fine for then. But now I want it back full screen, and I don't know ho...

Re: What INC From N to M in Exactly S Steps?

I like the idea that was proposed of 2 - 2 - 2.5 steps from $500 to $1,000,000 in 14 stages. I turned it around though, to put all the 2,5 steps first, then the doubling steps last. It just struck me that a player had a better chance at building up a nest egg to walk away with, and more to lose late...
