PureStorage

If you use PureStorage... you might have figured out by now that it is down. Looks like my web hosting partner has decided to part ways with our arrangement and did not tell me about it. I am looking for a new host but I doubt I will be able to run PureStorage as I could with my current dedicated ho...

That is wild. If its not the wind, magnetic pull, or someone making them move with a long fishing line... then what the hell is it?

Thanks for finding that one. I have some friends that are going to love it.

Thanks for the replys. The setup I want to benchmark is multiple Metro-E links between buildings. Some links are 100Mb and some are 1Gb. The ISP will make changes in their com gear and will effects our link speeds. The only way I know something has changed is when someone calls and says the system s...

Measure transfer rate?

I would like to create an app that would be able to measure the speed of a given network connection. I'm just not sure how to go about doing this accurately. I know Vista has something that shows the transfer speed if you copy a file. Something like that would be fine. Basically, I would like to sen...

The wiki page does a good job explaining it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_hadron_collider It looks like the LHC will attempt to produce the Higgs bosen particle, which is in the standard physics model but has not been observed yet. I think it is funny how some are calling it Satan's Stargate.....

I watched the press conference and they (the two that found the body) seemed very serious and did not have the look of someone who has taken a joke to far. However, there are a lot of rumors going around here from local people who claim to know the guys and there are some discrepancies with their st...

Bigfoot

There is a lot of buzz going around about two men in Georgia (USA) that claim to have found the body of a creature they are calling Bigfoot. ( CNN Link ) Have you guys heard of this? They state that the creature was found in the North Georgia mountains which is where I live. I am about 4 miles from ...

I have been using Debian "Etch" for older machines and virtual PCs. I still like Ubuntu but it's hard to argue it is faster (or more stable) than a plain vanilla Debian install. As for DSL, you will be limited to some of the applications that are available. For networking, you are going to...

I have not looked at the configuration requirements... but I bet you will need to forward a port from the external side of your router to a PC on the internal private side. Then you will need to use this port on the IE configuration side at your workplace. Also, a warning... I work for a large compa...

How easy is DVD ripping on linux these days? I tried many combinations of Open Source stuff - but could not find anything that is as consistent as DVDFab. Here is the current method that seems to work best for me: - DVDFab HD with Wine to decrypt the DVD to the drive - OGMRip to convert it to Xvid/...

Yeah, I guess I should should say that I have been blocked by things that use DirectX. I don't do that much in the way of games, but I might fiddle with Grub and see if I can point it to my old Windows drive so I can still boot up in Windows. Google has a crazy virtual chat thingy that I would like ...

Full time Linux user now...

I had two machines here and lost one to a storm recently. One was running XP (quite well) and the other one was running Ubuntu Linux. I only used the Linux machine occasionally. After the Windows box died, I combined all the good stuff into one box and have been tweaking it out for a couple of weeks...
