Update.

I can't make an announcement that the guide is now fully 4.40 final compatible, I'm not that fast :-) However... I've done a large rebuild of my website, mostly behind the scenes, to speed things up and to make it easier to maintain. This unfortunately also means all direct links thus far are now broken... sorry.

The guide can now be found here:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~bluez/purebasic/index.htm

I still need to update the downloadable version.

Update.

Okay, I've done all stuff related to the alpha channel. Hope it's understandable.

You can find the guide here:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~bluez/purebasic/index.htm

The updated page on alpha channels is here:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~bluez/purebasic/p ... ha_channel

Note that the downloadable version is not yet up to date. Stick to the online version.

All comments welcome, I'm in the process of reviewing and incorporating some.

Why do you focus so much on the DrawText() command? It is no different from the other commands when it comes to the alphachannel handling.

Btw, the flags can be combined. You can use #PB_2DDrawing_Transparent with the alpha modes to only draw the text part and not the background as before. So saying that #PB_2DDrawing_Transparent cannot affect the alpha channel is somewhat wrong because this flag does not specify that at all, the alpha flags do. That does not mean you can't use them together though.

I like to be wrong now and again ;-)

As for the attention to DrawText(), it's just part of the chain of logic, just as the whole Survival Guide is a reflection of the (admittedly not very impressive) way my mind works.

I'm surprised it suddenly gets a lot of attention :-) Need a copy? :-)

Update.

Revised parts of the sprites section (I'll probably have to redo parts of it when the next update comes along):

Update.

More work has been done on 2D graphics, which now includes sprite movement / inertia / vectors. It's a WIP though.

Update.

Parts I, II, III and IV are updated to match 4.50rc2, most changes were minimal, but I've spend some time on part V 'Expression Evaluation'. I've verified all type conversion / variable expression rules, and they now finally make sense :-)

Update.

- minor additions to the FTP section
- the downloadable version is now in sync with the online version again

I've added some information on the Windows ftp.exe client, as I used it to upload the Survival Guide as well as trying to understand FTP. Which, as it turned out, was pretty simple :-)

You'll find the guide here:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~bluez/purebasic/index.htm

The section on FTP:

The downloadable version:

Edit: I noticed a few typos / mistakes and a bit of 'dinglish'. I'll fix that in the next update.
