Re: PureBasic 5.73 beta 4 is available

Could you update the Linux install instructions? Some packages are old / not working, and as a total Linux noob, I should be able to install this easily
Re: PureBasic 5.73 beta 4 is available
I and others have been asking for this for several years.Joubarbe wrote:Could you update the Linux install instructions?...
Personally, I have accepted and lost hope for happiness!!! )))
p.s. But .... please see my message signature
Dawn will come inevitably.

Thank you.
Re: PureBasic 5.73 beta 4 is available
I reported a lot of QT related Linux bugs, and none of them is fixed in this bugfix release?
viewtopic.php?t=75690 Textgadget with QT subsystem does not wrap lines
viewtopic.php?t=75647 Strange behavior with QT subsystem on modal win
viewtopic.php?t=75643 DrawImage with resizing broken on QT subsystem
viewtopic.php?t=75642 TextGadget alignment completely broken with Linux+QT
viewtopic.php?t=75641 ResizeGadget with #PB_Ignore does not work with QT
viewtopic.php?t=75639 SetWindowColor does not work for subsystem QT
Why is this not getting fixed? Did I miss something?

Btw. in my opinion Qt as subsystem makes no sense at all.
I use PB also to write programs for customers.
If you read the license of Qt you will notice that you have to buy it in this case, and it is really really expensive
to use Qt for a commercial program.
Even if you use it only with external libraries of Qt you have to buy it.
That's the reason why I will never use Qt.
We noticed this a few years ago when we wrote an app for smartphones an PCs with Qt.
And the license did not change in the meantime.

Please see this regression -> viewtopic.php?f=4&t=76269Fred wrote:Should be the final beta before final version, so please test it if you can !
Otherwise I'll be stuck with 5.72 until it gets fixed.
Re: PureBasic 5.73 beta 4 is available
Here is an example of the only honest way to distribute binary files under Linux.
Available Platforms
Here is a list of packages and some details of the platforms where they were built:
Linux313_64: Ubuntu 14.04 (x64) / Kernel 3.13 / gcc 4.8 (GTK 3.10)
Linux319_64: Ubuntu 15.04 (x64) / Kernel 3.19 / gcc 4.9 (GTK 3.14)
Linux44_64: Ubuntu 16.04 (x64) / Kernel 4.4 / gcc 5.3 (GTK 3.18)
Linux415_64: Ubuntu 18.04 (x64) / Kernel 4.15 / gcc 7.3 (GTK 3.22)
Linux50_64: Ubuntu 19.04 (x64) / Kernel 5.0 / gcc 8.3 (GTK 3.24)
Linux54_64: Ubuntu 20.04 (x64) / Kernel 5.4 / gcc 9.3 (GTK 3.24)
Installation
The packages include also scripts to install the run time files or the development files in the system. Scripts were tested only in Ubuntu, but with minor changes they can work in any Linux system.
You need to find a way in this direction with the help of the community or honestly declare the end of Linux support.

Re: PureBasic 5.73 beta 4 is available
The help of the community, or hire one or two guys (maybe for free), or make some other parts of PureBasic (Linux parts?) open source. Sorry to say, but your personal life should not interfere with a software that is used professionally by many. You’ve also said that you didn’t have enough time to work on both PB and SB; well, you’ve got a good community here who is willing to help. Maybe it’s time to change your business model, because you seem to have been struggling for a while now.
SB could really be cool (and it already is), especially to develop app, and PB would really benefit from some core enhancements, just to keep up a bit with new standards.

Re: PureBasic 5.73 beta 4 is available
All this is not so simple.
These discussions go round and round in endless circles.
I allow myself to say what I think about QT and Linux for PB and in general.
QT for PB will fail, Linux as desktop operating system
will not be able to compete against Windows and Mac.
The interest in it is also simply too small to make a lot of effort.
I once suggested to create a forum for sponsoring, so that bugs can be fixed or features can be implemented.
The response was that someone asked where the forum was, that was all.
That's all there is to say.

If this is true, then there is still the question: "What is the chicken, and what is the egg?"Saki wrote:The interest in it is also simply too small to make a lot of effort.
Maybe there is only so little interest in PB for Linux, because it has so many bugs?
