How to get a sprite to flash on screen

I need a sprite to flash on the screen, i can it it to display no problem, but i cant get it to flash, how could i go about doing this?

1. draw it
2. flipbuffers
3. wait
4. don't draw it
5. flipbuffers again
6. wait
7. goto 1

Stupid as it sounds it was too obviously right, i cant belive i didnt think of it.
