Interestingly, like Kaeru I have known this type of game for more than 30 years & I was taught that diagonal was an allowable move. Maybe I have had it wrong all these years....
I think none of us is "wrong"...
it's just that you are living at the other end of the world (or we are, from your point of view) so surely rules can differ.

perhaps include a switch to allow/disallow diagonal moves....?

That would be a good way around it I think & should be quite easy to implement also. I will see what I can do in the next couple of days.

I grew up with the no diagonal rule too.... ;)

Diagonals makes it all too easy :(

nice game!
my first game in PB was exactly the same :D (if someone wants to have <a look>).
i learnt it without diagonal moves too, only -- and |.
i think it could look better, if you use some sprites/images instead of the red and green dots, just for the optik.
keep it up.
