Why in german B minor is H moll?

Post by ricardo »

In english musical notes are A, B, C, D , E, F and G. (no H)

In german are different? I dont understand why some Bach music in B minor are H moll?

the german notation is

Code: Select all

  cis dis fis gis ais
  des es ges as b
 C D E F G A H C
don't ask me why, I don't have any ethymologic information on this.

Bach was german, so his music is in H-moll, B-minor is just the english translation.
oh... and have a nice day.

Bach was german, so his music is in H-moll, B-minor is just the english translation.
So, there is no B in German for music notation?

the B is the H with one b, same as A with one #,
on the piano the black key between A and H.
this one is called B.

so, if you have german music notated in B-moll, its Bb-minor.

it's just a different notation, where is the problem?

in other languages it's Do Re Mi Fa So La Si Do, they dont even have an A... ;)
and don't ask me, how it is notated in Chinese or on Bali.
oh... and have a nice day.

I found the answer:

in German music notation the letter B designates B flat while the letter H, which is actually a deformation of a square B, designates B natural

No problem at all, was just curiosity why use a different letter for the bemol tone.

Was because i saw that some Bach music was H Moll and i dont understand why.

Thanks!
