Alien Breed 3D for modern PCs

Post by BarryG »

As some of you may have gathered from my previous posts, I'm an old Amiga fan and one of my favorite games was "Alien Breed 3D" (aka AB3D). The problem is, it was VERY slow to play back in the day, plus very blocky/ugly.

Well, I just found out that a remake for modern PCs exists: "Project Osiris" -> https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=67666

It's a standalone app that you just unzip to a new folder and run. And it's fantastic! Here's some video comparisons:

Alien Breed 3D -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d62wpU39x5s
Project Osiris -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdhp1KOXTqs

I hope this brings happiness to other Amiga fans here.

I played this on my CD32 (with SX1 module) back in the day, and while fun, it was slow and hard to look at. I always wondered why they had to have so much detail in the textures - I would've been satisfied with less to get a better frame rate, and to make it easier to see things instead of just a big blocky pixel mess. But yeah, since I found this remake I am finally enjoying it as it were meant to be - a whopping 27 years later! Wow. Haha.
